Updates for 9/1/2020

There are some changes coming at the Maquoketa Public Library, and we want to keep all of our patrons in the loop. There are also some things that are not changing right now, and we want you to know that as well. We will continue operating on a by-appointment basis for the foreseeable future. We will be sure to send an announcement when this changes. Our curbside pickup service will also remain available, most likely permanently. Additionally, if you or someone you know would benefit from our Books on Wheels program, we will deliver materials right to your front door.

Please remember that you are welcome at the library! We are still offering all of our services except the reservation of meeting rooms. If you want to browse books, use a computer, make copies, or send a fax, we can help you with that. Just give us a call or email.

As for changes, here is what we want to share:

  • Starting September 1st, all Bridges users will need a PIN to sign into their account along with their library card number. This is the same number you use to log into the online catalog. Not everyone will have a PIN already set up. If you don’t know your PIN or don’t know if you have one, give us a call and we will help you set one up.

  • Also starting September 1st, we are going to be changing our hours slightly. First, we will be offering limited Saturday hours. You can come in by appointment from 9:00 AM to Noon. We will also be going back to our regular closing time Monday through Thursday, which is 7:00 PM. Here are our hours beginning 9/1/2020:

    • Monday - Thursday 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM

    • Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

    • Saturday 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

  • We will also stop automatically renewing materials on September 1st. Our book drop is open, and we encourage anyone who has been holding onto items to return those as soon as possible. There are a number of books out that have reserve lists, and we’d like to provide those materials to the next in line in a timely manner. We will be happy to waive late fees for those who may have difficulties returning their items, but we will begin calling and sending letters regarding overdue materials beginning next month.

  • Our Summer Reading Program is over at the end of August! If you have children’s logs to return or Adult and YA books or minutes to submit via our website, we encourage you to do it soon. Prizes will be drawn at the beginning of September.

  • Lastly, we are very excited to now offer hotspots for checkout. If you are in need of internet access and do not have access at your home, you are welcome to check out or reserve a hotspot that will provide you with a wifi connection. Please visit our website for more details at maquoketa.lib.ia.us/hotspots.

We will continue to provide you with the best service we can during this time and welcome your suggestions or requests. I am also happy to answer any questions you might have, my email address is below.
